Monday: Students worked on reviewing point of view (1st, 2nd, 3rd person).  Students practiced reading a short narrative and responding to the narrative writing from a certain character’s POV.

For the passage below, students needed to write a journal entry from Karl’s POV describing what happened upon finding land (at least 10 sentences). We did this assignment in class and everyone finished.

MONDAY’S HW: none

Tuesday: Students review conflict in writing (and the 4 types of conflict).  Students watched a short SpongeBob episode where SpongeBob had to deal with an internal conflict (Sharks vs. Pods episode). Other classes watched 2 Pixar animations (Lou and The Egyptian Pyramids) and worked on perfecting their constructed responses about the topic of conflict. After watching the clips, students answered a few conflict questions and responded to a practice constructed response question.

TUESDAY’S HW: none

Wednesday: Students worked on extended constructed responses with paired passages.  See the link below for the two passages we worked with in class today.  Students were able to construct their answer in partners. As a class, we walked through the steps of completing this particular writing assignment.  This assignment is similar to what students may see on the Milestone.
